The municipality of Sinzheim lies about 7 km west of Baden-Baden, in front of the Fremersberg on the Rhine plain. It belongs to the district of Rastatt. Sinzheim has a population of 4,951 (as of 30 June 2010).
History
In 884, Sinzheim was first mentioned in a document under the name “Suninisheim”. The name developed through the forms Suenesheim (1154), Sunnesheim (1261), Suminsheim (1272), Sunzheim (1401), Sunzhaim (1523) and Suntzheim (1610) until the present name was introduced from 1620 onwards.
The outlying villages of Winden, Kartung, Schiftung, Halberstung, Müllhofen, Ebenung and Vormberg have, as far as is known, always belonged to Sinzheim. On 1 January 1973, as part of the administrative reform, Leiberstung was added as a new outlying village. The reform also dissolved the district of Bühl, to which Sinzheim had previously belonged. Sinzheim was incorporated into the enlarged district of Rastatt.
