Leselust in Baden e.V. is a society founded in 2004 in Baden-Baden whose members read aloud as volunteers to give children and young people a taste for reading. The readings take place at changing venues in Baden-Baden and the district of Rastatt. Eva Egloff chairs the society.
What the society does
The society treats reading aloud as reading promotion: children and young people are meant to discover the pleasure of reading for themselves. Its members have read aloud as volunteers since the society was founded.
Reading aloud in institutions
Readings take place in kindergartens, schools and care homes, and at celebrations and other events.[1]
Reading journeys at the city library
The society regularly invites children to a “Vorlesereise” — a reading journey — at the city library, where members read stories to children from the age of three.[2]
History
The society began with an interview its founder, Ute Kretschmer-Risché, gave to the Badisches Tagblatt in 2004. In her own words, that was the starting signal: around 100 people came forward afterwards wanting to read aloud in day-care centres, schools and homes for the elderly.[3] The founding meeting took place on 16 October 2004.[2]
Ute Kretschmer-Risché chaired the society at first. After a few years Marianne Wasserburger took over, the owner of the family bookshop Mäx + Moritz, who received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2010 for her work promoting reading.[3] After her death, Eva Egloff took the chair.
Membership and organisation
Leselust in Baden e.V. is entered in the register of associations at Rastatt district court under number VR 936 and has its seat on Große Straße.[4] The society’s work is done entirely by volunteers, and it repeatedly appeals for new readers.[1]
