Förderverein der Klosterschule Lichtental e.V. has supported the Klosterschule Lichtental, the oldest primary school in Baden-Baden, financially since 2006.[1] The society has its seat in the school building on Hauptstraße in Lichtental and is entered in the register of associations at Mannheim district court under number VR 200725.[2]
Purpose and activities
By its own account, the society pays for whatever falls outside the responsibility of the school authority. It names six fields: outdoor play areas, support in music, crafts and art, additional hardware and software for lessons, improvements to the learning environment, support for selected projects or particular talents, and cooperation between parents, pupils and teachers.[3] It also contributes to school outings and residential school trips and buys teaching materials.[1]
Projects
The society’s work centres on the schoolyard. It is behind the amphitheatre there, the seating groups, a climbing frame, a raised bed, murals, lamps, a parasol, a washbasin, a figure of the Good Shepherd, the painted markings on the ground, a rack for kick scooters and, later, the refurbishment of the amphitheatre.[1] The abbey coat of arms on the amphitheatre was reworked with glass granulate, and over one summer holiday a Chartres circle was sprayed onto the schoolyard surface: a company made the stencil, a painting firm applied the paint.[3]
Inside the building, the society paid for a school kitchen, the fitting-out of the craft room, the renovation of the sanitary facilities, mosaic work in the entrance area and height-adjustable, back-friendly furniture.[1][4] For lessons it added musical instruments, sports equipment, flashcard boxes and e-readers for the classroom libraries.[1]
Some things the society pays for again and again: school T-shirts and bags for the first-year classes, primary-school planners, school fruit from the weekly market and Christmas presents. It also covers the creation and hosting of the school website and subsidises outings: theatre visits, performances at the Festspielhaus (festival theatre) and guided tours of the Brahmshaus and the Toccarion.[1]
Membership and organisation
Membership costs one euro a month, and members can add a donation. The society’s website offers the membership form and the statutes as downloads, and people can also join through an online form.[5]
In July 2026 Dr.-Ing. Alexander Vondrous was the society’s chair. The board also comprised a deputy chair, a treasurer, a secretary and three ordinary members. The society additionally lists the head teacher, the chair of the parents’ council and two auditors.[6]
