EurAka Baden-Baden gGmbH is a non-profit company owned by the city of Baden-Baden. It runs a campus in the Cité offering vocational and continuing training for the events industry. The city is the sole shareholder, and Südwestrundfunk appoints the advisory board.[1] That makes the academy one of the few providers in its field under municipal ownership. EurAka has run its own teaching arm under the name Event-Akademie since 2016.
Campus in the Cité
EurAka is based on a campus in the Cité, the former French residential quarter in the west of the city. The academy building at the heart of the site consists of five long wings set parallel to one another, which is why it is known as the Fünf-Finger-Gebäude (five-finger building). It offers around 10,400 square metres of usable floor space.[1]
As the operating company, EurAka opens the campus to several education providers, which between them deliver the training the events industry needs. Besides its own Event-Akademie, these are VICTORIA | Internationale Hochschule, satellite departments of the Louis-Lepoix-Schule and the Robert-Schuman-Schule, and the Volkshochschule Baden-Baden (adult education centre).[2] Südwestrundfunk has set up the squad room for its Tatort crime series in the fourth finger of the building.[1]
The site also includes the Akademiebühne, a venue that hosts the practical side of the training and can be hired for outside events as well. A canteen, a lounge, a campus park and the academy’s own hall of residence round out the campus.[1]
History
The academy was founded in 1999 as Europäische Medien- und Event-Akademie gGmbH and today goes by the name EurAka Baden-Baden gGmbH.[1] The city of Baden-Baden has been its sole shareholder from the start, with Südwestrundfunk appointing the advisory board. Its own teaching arm has traded under the Event-Akademie brand since 2016.[1]
