Brahmsgesellschaft Baden-Baden e.V.

The Brahmsgesellschaft Baden-Baden was founded in 1966 to save the Brahmshaus in Lichtental, which was then threatened with demolition. Today it maintains the house with its museum and supports musicians who have a connection to the famous composer. The society’s president is Dr. Christof Maisch.

History

The Brahmsgesellschaft was founded in 1966. The aim was to prevent the demolition of the Brahmshaus, where the famous composer Johannes Brahms spent the summer months of the years 1865 to 1874. In 1967 the society bought the house and had it restored. A museum was set up in Johannes Brahms’s former living quarters, and a guest studio on the ground floor. Today the Brahmsgesellschaft has around 340 members, whose membership fees make the society’s work possible.
