The Badische Schwertspieler 1990 e.V. are a medieval re-enactment society from Karlsruhe that brings late-medieval life to an audience. In Baden-Baden they perform at the Mittelalterliche Winzertage (Medieval Winegrowers’ Days) in Steinbach, where they pitch their mercenary camp.

At the 2026 Mittelalterliche Winzertage the Badische Schwertspieler set up a late-medieval mercenary camp. Visitors could watch camp life at close quarters and follow staged fights with the sword. Anyone who wanted to know more could ask the re-enactors about armour and weapons technique. The society’s own musicians provided the music.
The society
Founded in Karlsruhe in 1990, the society is one of the older medieval re-enactment groups in Germany.[1] Its work rests on two strands: historical re-enactment, with sword-fighting training, staged fights and the late-medieval mercenary camp it builds at medieval markets, and live action role-playing (LARP). By its own account it has more than 70 members across Germany. Its registered seat is in a former brewery building in the Karlsruhe district of Mühlburg.
