The Museum Frieder Burda is the private collector’s museum of art patron Frieder Burda. It stands between the Stadtmuseum (city museum) and the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden on Baden-Baden’s Museum Mile. Since opening in October 2004 it has become one of the city’s biggest visitor draws, and it passed the one-million-visitor mark on 28 October 2009.

Architecture
The renowned New York architect Richard Meier designed the building, whose appeal lies in the clarity of its structure and its use of light and glass. Some 1,000 square metres of exhibition space spread across three floors, linked by walkable ramps. The exterior is white, the colour typical of Meier’s buildings. A glass bridge connects the Museum Frieder Burda to the neighbouring Kunsthalle.
The new building cost around 20 million euros, was paid for out of the funds of the Frieder Burda Foundation and opened on 22 October 2004. No public money went into it, and the foundation finances the museum’s day-to-day running on its own as well.
