Rizzi is a restaurant in the Palais Gagarin on Augustaplatz in Baden-Baden. It sits at the edge of the Lichtentaler Allee and is part of the Rizzi-Gruppe, the group of restaurants run by restaurateur Peter Schreck.
Concept and cuisine
Rizzi serves Mediterranean cuisine with Italian, French and Asian influences. The menu features beef and seafood specialities such as Loup de Mer and Bistecca Fiorentina, along with the house’s own version of sushi.[1]
Visiting
The restaurant has a terrace that opens onto the Lichtentaler Allee. It is open daily from noon, and because tables are in demand, the house asks guests to book ahead.[1] The Augustatiefgarage underground car park lies beneath the adjacent Augustaplatz. Beyond the restaurant itself, Rizzi also provides catering for private and corporate events under the name RIZZI & CO.[1]
History
Peter Schreck opened Rizzi in the spring of 2007 in the Palais Gagarin, which also houses Baden-Baden’s registry office.[2] Martina and Peter Schreck run the restaurant together. The Rizzi-Gruppe also includes the Wirtshaus Geroldsauer Mühle, the restaurant The Grill and the Club Bernstein at the casino, as well as the pop-up restaurant Bellini at the Kurhaus (spa house).
The name
The name is not a reference to the American pop-art artist James Rizzi, even though he visited Baden-Baden several times. Peter Schreck wanted an Italian-sounding name and held a small competition among his staff. One employee brought back the name Ritzi from Mallorca, which Schreck altered to Rizzi with a double z.[2]
