Brenners Park-Restaurant was the gourmet restaurant of the grand hotel Brenners Park-Hotel und Spa in Baden-Baden. Two Michelin stars[1] and 17 out of 20 Gault Millau points[2] made it the city’s most highly decorated restaurant in its final years. It closed on 30 September 2017.[3] Fritz & Felix opened in its place the following year.[4]
Head chefs and awards
Andreas Krolik earned the restaurant its first Michelin star in 2005 and a second in 2011. When family reasons took him to Frankfurt, the young Paul Stradner took over as head chef in August 2012. Born in Austria, Stradner had worked for the three-star chefs Harald Wohlfahrt and Jean Georges Klein, among others. His modern reading of classical cooking held one Michelin star, and the Guide Michelin awarded him a second in its 2015 edition. Gault Millau praised his light, contemporary cooking with aromas and gave it 17 out of 20 points. Sommelier Karl-Heinz Schopfe helped guests find the matching wines.
The rooms
The Park-Restaurant was decorated in a classically elegant style. A wall of windows looked out over the landscaped park of the Lichtentaler Allee.
Closure and successor
On 11 September 2017 the hotel announced that the restaurant would close on 30 September. Paul Stradner’s departure was the reason. In the meantime the hotel intended to develop the fine-dining offering further “in content and design” and to lead it “conceptually into a new future” by March 2018.[3] In 2018 the hotel opened Fritz & Felix in its place, with a contemporary restaurant concept and an interior in twenties style.[4] Farid Fazel is head chef there, and a Galician charcoal grill stands at the centre of the open kitchen.[5]
